MarketWatch: Weekly Real Estate Update for Riverdale, Bronx – 9/7/2026 – 9/14/2026

Let’s see what the market’s doing this week in the Riverdale area of the Bronx.

Did You Know?

* Federal Bureau of Investigation cybercrime complaints topped $20.9 billion in reported losses last year. Many originate overseas, but a surprising number come from inside the walls of U.S. prisons. (WSJ)

* Is there a way out of the coming US debt crunch? One path requires tough trade-offs lawmakers have ducked for decades: higher taxes and lower spending. Another route sounds more appealing: growth. Even if the country owes trillions more dollars, additional debt will matter less if the economy booms even faster. Many estimate 3.5-4% would be needed to make this effective…..right now GDP is growing around 2%…. (WSJ)

* 39% of retirees said they are reluctant to spend their retirement savings. And 71% of working-age Americans said they expect to be reluctant about spending retirement funds when the time comes. (Allianz Life)

* The Data-Center Boom Is Sparking a Third Wave of Inflation. America’s artificial intelligence buildout is pushing up prices on everything from smartphones to electricity. (YAHOO)

* The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the population aged 25 to 64 will grow 3% over the next decade, or about 0.3% a year. In the 1990s, that population was growing 1.1% annually. And CBO assumes net immigration picks back up after its recent decline. (WSJ)

Mortgage Rate Updates:

The US 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.76% as of September 10th, 2026, up from 6.71% in the previous week. “Aspiring buyers should remember that shopping around for the best mortgage rate and getting multiple quotes can potentially save them thousands,” said Sam Khater, Freddie Mac’s chief economist. A year ago, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.35%. Meanwhile, the 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.09%, up from 6.04% last week and 5.50% a year ago.
